Provided I can do it from my armchair, of course.
In August 1999 we went down to Cornwall, near Penzance, hoping to see the eclipse. However on the big day, the 11th, it was all clouded over and it just got much darker at the crucial moment, with a golden glow all around.
Inspired by eclipses in general I generated this spreadsheet of data for other moons in the solar system.
When I was younger I wanted to be the second person on Mars. Second, because:
I suspect I'll never set foot on Mars, but I hope someone does in my lifetime. Maybe there'll be some relic of life, possibly at the bottom of the huge Valles Marineris.
Anything Sci-fi like Star Trek (all 5 series) and Babylon 5. Sue is rude about those and watches soaps.
I probably spend more time surfing the net than the watching TV these days.
I am almost entirely a Classical buff and I think Beethoven is the greatest. I've got at least one CD of nearly everything he wrote.
However I do like Mozart, J.S. Bach, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and some Sibelius. I have a lot of affection for Gilbert and Sullivan too. The music of the comic operas is brilliant in places, some of Princess Ida is fantastic. (Alas that operetta is far from P.C. these days!).
I can play the piano, but not very well. My hands are far too small to play well, they can only just do an octave with something in the middle. Also my co-ordination is poor. I can also play the clarinet a bit.
I recently started playing GO and you can track my progress (or lack of it) here.
In October 2003 I felt that the time had come to remove the other subject matter I had here as it had served its purpose. Please contact me if you want to refer to any of that material.
